We Are The Somatic Understanding Research Foundation

The Somatic Understanding Research Foundation (SURF) is a nonprofit that helps fund and explore the advancing research on the mind-body connection, exploring how physical experiences influence emotions and health. It supports studies on trauma recovery, stress, and movement’s impact on emotions. SURF uses funds solely for research and collaborates with experts to promote evidence-based approaches to improve well-being.

Donnalea Van Vleet Goelz, Ph.D. in Somatic Clinical Psychology, is the executive director of Continuum Movement®, founded by Emilie Conrad-Da’oud. Emilie entrusted Donnalea to continue the work of Continuum after her passing. Donnalea is involved in research at the University of Florida and University of North Florida.

She has taught at institutions including the University of Florida, Mayo Clinic, Esalen Institute, Kripalu, and more. Founder of Cobalt Moon Center in Neptune Beach, Florida, Donnalea has been authorized to teach Continuum since 1995 and has been a T’ai Chi instructor since 1990. She is also a graduate of the Barbara Brennan School of Healing, where she served as senior faculty, and holds certifications in Brennan Integration, Object Relational Psychotherapy, and Kabbalistic Healing.

Donnalea teaches Continuum, T’ai Chi, and healing arts workshops nationally and internationally.
